8 months Negros bishop seeks justice for ‘Sagay 9’ Manilatimes
AS the country celebrates Labor Day this Wednesday, Bishop Gerardo Alminaza of the San Carlos diocese in Negros Occidental is seeking justice for nine sugar workers who were killed in what he calls a “senseless” attack on a plantation in Sagay town last year. “We especially remember the Sagay 9 whose murder has not been given justice until today,” Alminaza said in his Labor Day message. “The impunity in senseless killings resulting from the landlessness of our agricultural and farm workers are sad manifestations of where we are in our journey towards God’s kingdom of love, justice and peace,” the prelate added.
