San Miguel Corp., through its food division San Miguel Foods, ramped up its purchases of corn to 524,155 metric tons as of mid-November as part of its efforts to support Filipino farmers amid the coronavirus pandemic. In a statement on Thursday, San Miguel President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang said the figure was by far “the largest volume ever that we have sourced directly from [farmers’] cooperatives.” According to the conglomerate, the volume was 20 percent higher than the 436,209 MT bought in September.
